The deciding source is presidential executive orders published by The White House. Each outcome is Yes if, on or before December 31, 2026, the president signs and issues an executive order that imposes or increases a tariff on the country or industry named in that outcome, imposes a tariff on all imported goods or on a region that includes that country, or amends an earlier order to increase tariffs on it, and the tariff goes into effect by that date. Any direct tax on imported goods counts as a tariff, whatever the order calls it. Only executive orders count: tariffs imposed by presidential proclamation or any other presidential action that is not an executive order do not count. Otherwise the outcome is No: an order rescinded before the tariff takes effect, a tariff whose effective date falls after that date, and tariffs imposed by Congress or any other part of government do not count. Resolution is at 8:00 AM CT on the day after December 31, 2026, and the outcome can resolve early once a qualifying tariff takes effect. If publication of the executive order is delayed, resolution waits until it is published.
Tariffs are taxes on imported goods. The event is the formal issuance of a presidential executive order that goes into effect and imposes or increases tariffs on a specified country, region, or industry by December 31, 2026.
